Why is a 50 percent rise followed by a 50 percent fall not back to the start?
Because each percentage applies to a different base. 100 rises to 150, and half of 150 is 75, not 100.
What is the difference between percent and percentage points?
Going from 10 percent to 12 percent is a rise of two percentage points, but a rise of twenty percent. Reports mix the two constantly.
How do I remove VAT from a price?
Divide, do not subtract. At 22 percent, divide the gross price by 1.22. Subtracting 22 percent gives a different and wrong figure.
